Mardi Gras which means “Fat Tuesday” in French is the climax of carnival festivities before Lent & is perhaps most famously celebrated in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana.

Everyone dresses up to join in the party & traditional themes include the Mardi Gras King & Queen, Court Jester costumes & more elaborate one such as Marie Antoinette.  Generally speaking, the more outrageous the better!

Carnivale is also celebrated all around the world with one of the most famous & perhaps oldest taking place in Venice, Italy.  The first recorded Carnival of Venice took place way back in 1268 when the whole city partied & held opulent masquerade balls.  Venetian masks are still popular today.
